The Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) Movement began in 1920 in St. Louis. A Man, by the name of Henry Giesenbier,
recognized a need for organization to teach youth leadership and skills in order to advance their careers and themselves as individuals.
The Jaycees are a worldwide organization. Some U.S. programs that have received national recognition are:
Get out the Vote, Operation Red Ball and The Special Olympics. The Georgia Jaycees were founded in 1936. In 1955, Perry, Ga was designated as
the Georgia Junior Chamber of Commerce headquarters. The GA Jaycees have been home to four National Presidents.
The GA Jaycees' programs have produced The Special Olympics, Camp Dream (a camp for mentally disabled individuals)
and Model Legislature. Through Model Legislature the GA Jaycees have had their hand in the white fog lines on roads and school bus folding arms.
A multitude of laws have been passed through the General Assembly because of the GA Jaycees efforts.
The Newtown/North Fulton Jaycees were founded in 1991, by the charter president, Wendell Whitfield.
The North Fulton Jaycees' signature projects are: The House on Horror Hill, Annual Maverick Dinner, Child I.D., Shooter's Education, Chili Cook-Off
and Fourth of July necklaces at Will's Park.
The N. Fulton Jaycees divide themselves into four groups: Management Development, Community Development,
Individual Development and Membership Development. Management consists of ways of means projects, business skills, chairman planning guides
(CPG) and public relations. Some Management projects are: The House on Horror Hill, Annual Maverick Dinner, CPG workshops,
Distinguished Awards Banquet and The Fourth of July Necklaces at Will's Park.
Community Development is the Jaycees involvement in the community and for the community.
The N. Fulton Jaycees have always taken part when asked to participate in a wide variety of activities. Some of our Community programs are:
the Alpharetta Christmas Tree Lighting, nursing home visits, Shooter's Education, JAYS (Jaycees Against Youths Smoking), Camp Dream,
Ronald McDonalds houses, Child I.D., the American Cancer Society and many more. The N. Fulton Jaycees are looking for opportunities to
become more involved with community needs.
Individual Development offers a variety of programs to better an individual's potential.
Individual development helps members with time management and stress management. We also participate in Individual Development competitions.
There are five different types of competition: Write Up, Speak Up, Debate, Family and Interview. Interview competition is to better
prepare its members for business advancements by learning interview techniques and resume formats. N. Fulton Jaycees take their
individual Competitions very seriously. They have been the strongest chapter in competitions for the last five years.
Our chapter has had many region, state and national winners in The Jaycee Competitions.
Membership Development focuses on recruiting and registering new members.
At present, The N. Fulton chapter has 78 members, but we are constantly looking for new members between the ages
of 18-40 with a desire to make our community a better place to live. N. Fulton Jaycees hold two meetings
the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 7:30 P.M. at our clubhouse on Brumbelow Road.
We are looking forward to building our new facility during the spring and summer of 2005.
Our Membership projects are: Membership Nights, Membership socials, and Athletic Events (
including Bowling, Softball, Putt-Putt, Horseshoes and Volleyball).
The North Fulton Jaycees are one of 36 chapters across the state of Georgia.
They are very active in region and state organizations. They have been ranked among the best in Georgia for the last seven years.
N. Fulton Jaycees train leaders inside the Jaycees and in the community as well. We have also had several past Vice-Presidents,
State Presidents, Region Directors, and currently have many members that are involved in Region and State projects.
All in all, North Fulton Jaycees are a family and we want to extend our family to you. We are also a business and
employees are not only needed but WANTED by the North Fulton Jaycees.
